Project HELP Centre is a collaborative effort between the Subordinate Courts of Singapore and the Criminal Justice Club. Comprising two legal clinics (the Remand Clinic and the Legal Clinic @ Community Justice Centre), students who volunteer under Project HELP Centre assist legal practitioners with their pro-bono cases. It aims to improve the equality of self-representation of accused-in-persons (“AIPs”) and litigants who cannot afford legal counsel.
The Remand Clinic is conducted by the Association of Criminal Lawyers of Singapore at the Subordinate Courts. Participating legal practitioners will first identify deserving cases. Student volunteers will then get the opportunity to interview the AIPs to gather and confirm the facts, while noting any discrepancies.
The Legal Clinic @ Community Justice Centre is conducted by the Law Society of Singapore at the Subordinate Courts. Students will assist applicants and legal practitioners with various administrative duties and take notes of the practitioners’ legal advice to the AIPs.
